Rev. Roger Timm, pastor of Ascension Lutheran Church in Riverside for the past 11 years, is hanging up the collar after 40 years in the ministry on Sunday, Nov. 20.
Timm will preside over his last services at the church, located across the street from Ames School at 400 Nuttall Road, at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
After the 10 a.m. service, the congregation will hold a reception in Timm’s honor.
A graduate of Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Timm received his Ph.D. in religious studies from Columbia University/Union Theological Seminary in New York, and has held post in both campus and parish ministry.
He is past president of the Lutheran Campus Ministry of Illinois board of directors, the Ministry Committee of the Metropolitan Chicago Synod of the ELCA and the Illinois Multi-Synodical candidacy Committee, which oversees candidates for professional ministry.
Locally, Timm has been a leader in the Riverside/North Riverside Covenant of Churches and is on the steering committee of the Albertus Magnus Society of the Siena Center at Dominican University in River Forest, planning programs for dialogues on faith and science.
Timm and his wife, Marilyn, have two grown daughters and two grandchildren.
