James D. Fiala, 67, of Downers Grove and formerly of Brookfield, died Nov. 28, 2011 at his home in Downers Grove.

Mr. Fiala grew up in Brookfield, graduating from S.E. Gross School in 1958 and Riverside-Brookfield High School in 1962. He owned the James D. Fiala Paving Co., headquartered in Hodgkins, for more than 30 years, retiring in 2008.

He was past president of the Illinois Roadbuilders Association and a member of the Bradley University Centurion Society. He enjoyed piloting his own aircraft, fishing, golfing and traveling.

Mr. Fiala is survived by his wife, Jane E. Fiala (nee Minarovic); his stepchildren, Debby (Rich) Cornacchia, David (Sonia) Kinst and Tom Ludwig; and his grandson, Hunter Kinst.

A funeral service was held Dec. 2 at Johnson Funeral Home in Brookfield.
