Riverside resident John E. Immekus, 76, died Dec. 15, 2011.
Mr. Immekus was born July 7, 1935 and served in the U.S Air Force during the Korean War. After the war he worked as a specialist at Illinois Bell prior to his retirement.
In addition, Mr. Immekus was a stand-up comic who, according to his family, opened a show for the great Louis Armstrong. In his retirement years, Mr. Immekus was a beloved crossing guard at St. Barbara School in Brookfield.
Mr. Immekus is survived by his wife, JoAnn Immekus (nee Bates); his children, Mark (Debbie), J.J., Jeff (Jean) Bates, Jen (Kevin) Reynolds, Paul (Kimberly), Julie and Joe Bates; and his grandchildren, Matthew (Lindsay), Peter, Jessica, Nathan, Luke, Collette, Katelyn and Cory.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 20 at St. Louise de Marillac Church in LaGrange Park.
