Helen A. Sanker, 91, a resident of Lyons and a longtime former resident of Brookfield, died Jan. 15, 2012 at LaGrange Memorial Hospital.

Ms. Sanker married her husband, George Sanker, on July 1, 1939 at St. Agnes Church in Chicago. The couple moved to Brookfield in 1960, and Ms. Sanker became involved at St. Barbara Parish as a member of the Council of Catholic Women and the Seniors Club.

She also was a member of the Brookfield Women of the Moose and enjoyed singing, doing craftwork, reading and doing crossword puzzles. In 2007, Sanker moved to Lyons, where she lived at the time of her death.

Ms. Sanker is survived by her husband, George Sanker; her daughter, Sandy (Ken) Blackwell; her grandchildren, Laura Harms, Glendon (Ruth) Jones, Tracy McKissack, Michael Bazano, Craig (Jennifer) Blackwell and Ryan Blackwell; 15 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Sanker.

Visitation will be on Friday, Jan. 20 from 3 p.m. until a 7:30 p.m. funeral service at Johnson Funeral Home, 3845-47 Prairie Ave. in Brookfield. Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
