Although the host Huskies dominated the loaded competition with nine top two finishes, LT garnered a pair of second-place showings and four third-place marks. In the 145-pound title bout, the Lions’ Jack Bates lost to Minooka’s Cornett Oughton on a tech fall 6:00. Oswego’s Luis Flores edged Adam Rodgers of LT by a score 6-2 in the championship match at 285. Carter Beebe (120), AJ Villarreal (132), Jaime Jones (182) and Justin Fuller (195) comprised the Lions’ third-place performers.

Fenwick girls basketball
The Fenwick girls basketball team erased the hardship of falling to an out-of-state team by walloping two East Suburban Catholic Conference rivals last week.
Minus reserve Mary Devereaux (broken wrist) and starter Marek Burchette (calf muscle), the Friars had a difficult time keeping a much taller St. Joseph of St. Louis team at bay at the McDonald’s Shootout earlier in the week. Fenwick had its lowest point total of the season in a 78-46 loss.
Maggie Reilly led the Friars with 15 points, all coming from behind the three-point arc. Sophomore Jade Owens added 13 points, and Paige Corvino 10, but the Friars had trouble defending 6-foot-3 junior center Sydney Stipanovich, who led the Angels (16-2) with 31 points and 10 rebounds.
Fenwick (16-5, 5-1) took out its frustration first on Joliet Catholic as Reilly rained down six three-pointers and finished with 22 points and Meredith Boardman powered up 19 points and hauled down 12 rebounds in a 71-60 victory on Jan. 18. Owens also finished with a double-double of 10 points and 11 assists.
On Saturday, the Friars upended St. Viator 86-52 behind Boardman’s 19 points and 10 rebounds. Owens added 17 points and six assists, while Reilly chipped in 14 points.
Along with Fenwick, Marist, Benet and Marian Catholic are all in the hunt for the ESCC title. Marist is currently undefeated at 6-0. Fenwick hosts the RedHawks on Feb. 8 and Marian Catholic, who is currently 4-1, on Feb. 9.
The Friars are scheduled to play two games at Lake Zurich on Saturday.
