Brookfield’s Frances Lorenzi, who is a senior in the College of Health Sciences at Marquette University in Milwaukee, flew to Honduras in January as part of a cadre of more than 30 Marquette students and nine Milwaukee healthcare providers on a medical service trip.

Students and healthcare providers represent Marquette Global Brigades, which send about 50 volunteers to Honduras at the beginning of each year. This year, the group spent Jan. 9 to 12 in the country, providing medicine, checkups and dental services.

Lorenzi is majoring in biomedical sciences. Other students were from the school’s College of Nursing the College of Communications and the College of Arts and Sciences.

Global Brigades was founded at Marquette in 2003. Since that time the organization has sent almost 12,500 volunteers to deliver health services to more than 300,000 people in Honduras, Panama and Ghana.
