Fueled by a six-game winning streak, the Lyons Township boys basketball team has clawed its way back into contention for the West Suburban (Silver) Conference Championship. But Glenbard West derailed the Lions’ recent surge with a humbling 60-36 home victory in Glen Ellyn on Friday.
After a lackluster first half which the Lions trailed 19-7, LT (8-10, 4-3) outscored the Hilltoppers 21-11 in the third quarter to draw within 30-28, The Lions’ offense stalled again in the final stanza as Glenbard West went on an emphatic 30-8 run to close the game.
Senior guard David Reed led LT with 10 points including a pair of three-pointers, while Kenny Smith and Matt Robare scored seven points apiece. LT shot poorly, making 12 of 42 field goal attempts (29 percent) including an abysmal 4-for-22 from three-point land.
Michael Mache netted a game-high 15 points and Jeff Levesque added 12 for Glenbard West, which took over sole possession of second place in the conference. The Hilltoppers (13-3, 5-2) visit league leader Oak Park today in essentially a battle for first place.
The Lions host York on Friday (7:30 p.m.) and Hinsdale South on Saturday (6 p.m.).
