The Riverside-Brookfield girls basketball team simply had no answer for Kelly Crowley. The De La Salle star exploded for 29 points to deal visiting RB a 67-60 loss in the Class 2A regional final.
“I thought we played pretty well, but we just couldn’t stop [Crowley] in the second half,” RB senior forward Elena Duve said. “She was sinking threes from all over the court.”
Crowley netted 27 points, including 7-for-9 marksmanship from behind the three-point arc after halftime.
RB controlled the first half with a 26-8 run to seize a 31-19 lead at the break. Duve scored 10 of her 13 points during the Bulldogs’ auspicious first half performance. Senior forward Meghan Orgler paced RB with 21 points while Kiley Rusen (10 points), Alleigh VandeMerkt (seven points) and Hannah Claywell (6 points) also chipped in.
The Bulldogs cruised past Kenwood 78-51 in their postseason opener (Feb. 13). Orgler scored 18 points and Megan Walsen contributed a season-high 12 points.
