Joseph James Kubik, 76, died March 2, 2012 at his home in Riverside after a courageous battle with leukemia.

Mr. Kubik was born on Dec. 29, 1935. He served as a medic in the U.S Army and graduated from Northwestern University. After moving to Riverside, he became very involved in the community. He reactivated the local Cub Scout troop and became its scoutmaster, was a member of the Kiwanis Club and managed a Little League baseball team.

He was also a civic leader who served two terms on the Riverside Board of Trustees. Mr. Kubik also served two terms and was president of the Riverside-Brookfield High School District 208 Board of Education.

Mr. Kubik worked for many years in a management capacity at AT&T and Lucent, retiring in 1989 to enjoy traveling and playing golf. He was a member of the Riverside Golf Club, where he and his wife, Carol, enjoyed socializing with dear friends.

The main focus of Mr. Kubik’s life was his family. He was the husband of Carol Kubik (nee Beranek); the father of Pamela (Arthur) Roman, of Western Springs, and Gregory (Margaret) Kubik, of Carmel, Ind.; the grandfather of Olivia Ramon, Alex Ramon, Connor Kubik and Jack Kubik; the uncle of Lisa (Todd) Guynn and Lindsey (Marc) Cicero; and the great-uncle of many. He was the son-in-law of Vlasta (the late Rudolph E.) Beranek, of Berwyn, and the brother of Arlene (Richard) Grubbe, of Goodyear, Ariz.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
