The Lyons Township volleyball team returns eight players this season, including four starters from last year’s 22-15 squad.
Middle blocker/outside hitter Jason Dolinski had 116 kills and 30 blocks last year, while outside hitter Kevin McMahon also played well offensively with 77 kills. Jack Murphy (93 digs) and John Peterson (84 digs) are the other returning starters for LT.
“The senior class is ready to go, having had a successful club season,” LT coach Joann Pyritz said. “Jason Dolinski will dominate the net with his ability to play middle and outside and Kevin McMahon will lead the charge outside. Peterson and Murphy are consistent passers who will assist our defense.”
While the Lions should be a strong hitting and blocking team with plenty of depth and versatility, Pyritz still is searching for the Lions’ setter. Junior Mike Pajkos, Marco Kostich, Clayton Smentek and Peterson are all candidates for the position.
LT, which lost to Wheaton-Warrenville South in a regional final last season, should be a top contender for the West Suburban (Silver) Conference championship this spring. Oak Park, Downers Grove North, Hinsdale Central and Glenbard West should also be in the mix for Silver supremacy.
The Lions kick off the season at the Conant Invitational on March 23. LT returns for its home opener against Morton on March 30 (6 p.m.) in a conference crossover match.
