Arthur J. Vacek, 89, a lifelong resident of Brookfield, died March 25, 2012 at Hines V.A. Hospital in Maywood.
Mr. Vacek served in the U.S Army during World War II and was a life member of the Brookfield VFW Post #2868. For 44 years he worked as a cashier clerk for the Chicago Daily News and the Chicago Sun-Times newspapers, retiring in 1984.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Vacek (nee O’Connor) on Aug. 29, 1994. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Frank Vacek.
Mr. Vacek is survived by his sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Vacek and Ruth Vacek; four nephews; three great-nephews; one great-niece; and one great-great-nephew.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 30 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 3845-47 Prairie Ave. in Brookfield. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 31 at 10 a.m. at St. Barbara Church, 4008 Prairie Ave. in Brookfield, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
