Two men have been charged with attacking and robbing a Brookfield teenager of his cellphone, and Brookfield police are searching for a third suspect in the wake of the March 26 incident.

LaGrange resident Arsenyl Hill, 23, and LaGrange Highlands resident Shane Jones, 20, were each charged with one count of robbery. At a bond hearing on March 31, a judge set Hill’s bond at $25,000. Jones appeared in court on April 2, with a judge setting his bond at $20,000.

Both are being held at Cook County Jail awaiting an April 4 preliminary hearing at the Maybrook courthouse.

“At this time it appears that it was a crime of opportunity and the victim/witnesses and offenders had no relation,” said Lt. James Episcopo of the Brookfield Police Department.

Police stated that the victim and three friends were walking in the vicinity of Jackson and Park avenues about 8:30 p.m. on March 26.

According to the victim and his three friends, they were walking eastbound on Jackson Avenue approaching Park Avenue when they were approached by three subjects, who asked, “Who has the money?” and “What kind of cellphones you got?”

They grabbed one of the teens, who was wearing headphones, and began striking him around the head before taking his Apple iPhone. The offenders fled north on Park Avenue after the victim picked one of them up and slammed him to the ground, according to police. No one was seriously injured.

Police initially believed the attackers may have come from an underage drinking party police had broken up in the 3400 block of Prairie Avenue at 6:20 p.m. that same evening. Police interviewed three people who had been at the party, but released them without charges after questioning. Police now say the party and the robbery were not connected.
