Like the boys team, the Fenwick girls water polo squad won the MCAC title albeit in decidedly more comfortable fashion. Powered by the play of the Barron sisters – Colleen and Maureen – Fenwick rolled to a 13-7 win over St. Ignatius.

Colleen, a sophomore, scored five goals while her senior sister netted four goals. Alexa Ovalle, Cara Borkovec and Paige Kohut also scored for the Friars (25-3), who scored six goals against the Wolfpack in the third quarter to seize a commanding 10-3 lead entering the final period. In the semifinals, Fenwick routed Loyola 19-2, and St. Ignatius bested Mother McAuley 8-4.

Fenwick opens the state playoffs on Thursday vs. Curie (7 p.m.) at York. The Friars are the No. 2 seed behind Lyons Township. If Fenwick wins its postseason opener, the winner of York-Riverside Brookfield awaits in Friday’s semifinal (8 p.m.). The York Sectional final is slated for Saturday at 1:15 p.m.
