George E. Oberg, 90, of LaGrange and formerly of Brookfield, died May 7, 2012 at LaGrange Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Oberg served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Jennie M. Nechvatal on Feb. 21, 1948 and the couple lived in Brookfield from 1948 to 1953, when they moved to LaGrange.
For 35 years, Mr. Oberg worked as an outside plant engineer for Illinois Bell, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed reading and watching sports.
Mr. Oberg is survived by his wife, Jennie M. Oberg (nee Nechvatal); his son, George Eric (Rosemary) Oberg; his daughter, Caryn (Michael) Kunik; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his sister, Anita (Stan) Dvorak; and his sister-in-law, Rose Oberg. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Beth (Michael) Ratliff.
Funeral services were held May 12 at Johnson Funeral Home in Brookfield, followed by interment at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Stickney.
