The notching of the Hofmann Dam, scheduled to begin next Monday, has been delayed until June 20 or 21, Village Manager Peter Scalera announced Thursday afternoon.

The Riverside village board gave the green light at a special meeting held June 11 to punch a hole through the center of the dam. At that time, Jeff Zuercher, project manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, had announced that work was slated to proceed on June 18.

The reason for the delay, Zuercher told the Landmark on Thursday, was that the contractor for the job temporarily needed a piece of equipment, to be used for the Hofmann notching, at another job site.

Zuercher said an update on the timetable for the dam-notching should be available by Monday.
