It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this letter concerning the closing of St. Barbara School. All of my family graduated from St. Barbara School, as well as many of my nieces and nephews.

I have a long history, as well as happy memories of St. Barbara, since I am a graduate of St. Barbara, an eighth-grade teacher, director of the religion education program and am presently the pastoral associate at St. Barbara. Practically my whole life has been ministering at St. Barbara Parish.

Changes have been made in the past with a great deal of prayer and discernment; the closing of St. Barbara School is no exception. Father Casey, the pastor, did not desire to close the school.

After countless meetings with the parish staff, the school board, the archdiocese and the school parents, it was decided that closing the school was the only option, because of the low student enrollment and lack of money.

Endings are often sad in our life – but we, as Christian people, know there will be brighter days to come.
