With property tax appeals open to residents of Riverside Township through Sept. 5, Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Dan Patlak and Riverside Township Assessor Fran Sitkiewicz will co-host a property tax appeal seminar on Monday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. at Riverside Township Hall, 27 Riverside Road in Riverside.

The event is free and open to the public and taxpayers are asked to bring a copy of their most recent tax bill.

During the hour-long seminar, taxpayers will learn how to file a successful appeal. Patlak will explain how property taxes are calculated and go over the appeal procedure of the board of review, which is a quasi-judicial agency that adjudicates assessment appeals for all property in Cook County.

Patlak represents the 1st District, which includes 90 percent of Suburban Cook County and two wards in Chicago.

Taxpayers will then have the opportunity to work with staff members from the board of review to address specific questions and concerns.

Appeal forms can also be obtained at the board of review, 118 N. Clark St., Room 601, in Chicago, or at the Maybrook courthouse, 1500 Maybrook Drive in Maywood. A limited number of appeal forms are available at the Riverside Township Assessor’s Office, located on the third floor of township hall.

Appeals can also be filed online at www.cookcountyboardofreview.com. For further questions, call Elly Drake, outreach director, at 312-603-3644.
