The Des Plaines Valley Mosquito Abatement District will perform aerial spraying to combat mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus on Aug. 28 from 7:45 p.m. to midnight in Riverside east of First Avenue as well as in several other suburbs.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the Illinois Department of Public Health had reported 48 cases of West Nile Virus in humans in Illinois, with 35 of those in Cook County. Two Illinois residents, in DuPage County and Kane County, have died after contracting West Nile so far during 2012.
Thirty-eight of the West Nile cases reported in Illinois involve people 45 years old or older. Mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile Virus have been found at sites throughout the Chicago area, including Brookfield and North Riverside, on multiple occasions during July and August, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
