On Sept. 14, Brookfield Police Chief Steven Stelter will be sworn in as president of the West Suburban Chiefs of Police Association, a group which shares information on crime fighting strategies and also lobbies state legislators to enhance crime prevention laws in Illinois.

Stelter will replace out-going president Thomas Weitzel, who is chief of the Riverside Police Department.

“I’m confident that Chief Stelter will continue to lead the association toward the high standards of professionalism that the citizens of Brookfield and greater Cook County have for law enforcement,” said Weitzel in a press release.

At Stelter’s swearing-in ceremony in McCook on Sept. 14, North Riverside Police Chief Anthony Garvey will be sworn in as vice president. Garvey will ascend to the post of president in the fall of 2013.

The Riverside Police department has announced that Sgt. David Krull has been selected as the 2011-12 Outstanding Elderly Service Officer of the Year. Krull is one of five officers in the state of Illinois to receive the award for his work with senior citizens in Riverside and western suburbs.

Krull received his award, sponsored by Attorney General Lisa Madigan, on Aug. 28 in Joliet.
