In an early season clash between West Suburban (Silver) Conference contenders, Glenbard West quelled any sense of drama with 28 points in the first quarter en route to a surprisingly comfortable 49-7 win over Lyons Township on Saturday in Glen Ellyn.
Lyons (1-2, 0-1) simply made too many mistakes with four fumbles, an interception, a punt blocked against the Hilltoppers (3-0, 1-0), who have outscored their opponents 126-21 en route to a 3-0 start this season.
LT quarterback Zach Mahoney finished 21-for-28 for 265 yards and Northwestern-bound Matthew Harris caught five passes for 70 yards and a touchdown. Scott Andrews (eight carries, 54 yards) and Joe Zito (14 carries, 72 yards) scored two touchdowns apiece for Glenbard West.
After opening the season with three road games, the Lions finally return home to take on Downers Grove North (Friday, 7:30 p.m.) at Bennett Field.
