District 208 Superintendent Kevin Skinkis received a one-year extension on his contract Tuesday night, extending it to June 30, 2015. When he was hired in 2011, Skinkis was given a three-year contract.

“Dr. Skinkis has been tireless over the past year in addressing the challenges that our district faces,” said District 208 school board President Matt Sinde in a press release issued Wednesday morning announcing the extension.

“The board considered both the district’s academic and financial performance in deciding to extend Dr. Skinkis’s contract,” Sinde stated. “The board felt that a one-year extension rewards Dr. Skinkis for his effort and accomplishments while assuring additional stability in district management on an economical basis.”

Skinkis’ salary will remain $175,000, the same as when he was hired. Any increases over the final two years of his contract will be based on a fraction of the consumer price index. He could also receive a merit increase over the final two years of his contract based his performance evaluation.

“I want to thank the board of education for the confidence they have placed in me to have additional time to lead our district forward,” Skinkis said in the press release. “I have found my first year as District 208 superintendent both rewarding and challenging. I am looking forward to continuing to work with the students, staff, parents, community and board to maintain and grow the excellent school that Riverside-Brookfield is.”
