Police late Friday afternoon identified the man found dead in a bathroom stall at the Brookfield Public Library as Abraham Perez, 22, of Brookfield.

Police Chief Steven Stelter said no foul play was suspected in Perez’ death and that police will know more when the Cook County Medical Examiner completes an autopsy.

However, it appears that Perez’ death may be drug-related. According to Stelter, police discovered drug paraphernalia inside the bathroom stall where they found Perez.

The Brookfield Public Library closed early Friday afternoon after police reported the “unnatural death” of someone inside a bathroom.

Police Chief Steven Stelter said police were called to the library at about 1 p.m. after being notified of an unresponsive male inside a locked bathroom stall.

Security cameras reportedly showed the male walking eastbound on Lincoln Avenue and entering the library’s main entrance at about 10:30 a.m. The male walked directly to the bathroom, according to Stelter.

Police did not identify the person nor the circumstances surrounding his death. An Illinois State Police crime scene investigator is on site at the library.

No one is being allowed in the library at this time. A sign in the front door states the library is “temporarily closed.”
