Christine J. “Bunny” Palumbo, 82, a longtime resident of Riverside, died Sept. 6, 2012.
Born in Chicago July 11, 1930, Ms. Palumbo graduated from Holy Name Cathedral High School in Chicago and Dominican University (formerly Rosary College) in River Forest.
She was married to John P. Palumbo, who preceded his wife in death, for 45 years. She lived in Riverside for 55 years.
A former teacher and Realtor, she was a member of several local organizations, including the St. Mary Council of Catholic Women, the American Association of University Women.
She was known to have an adventurous spirit and was a frequent traveler. She also lovingly tended a vegetable garden for many years and enjoyed her reputation as a gourmet cook.
A lifelong Chicago Bears fan and a fan of the Chicago Cubs, Ms. Palumbo enjoyed playing golf, horseback riding, river rafting and playing bridge.
Ms. Palumbo is survived by her children, Christine M. Palumbo (Dr. Charles L. Derus), Annette Palumbo (Michael B. Ely), John C. (Teresa) Palumbo and Diane Palumbo Galo (Christopher S.); her grandchildren, Caroline Derus Cook (James), John Derus (Cathy), Lisa Derus; Nick, Christopher, Molly and Kelly Ely; Mary and John Mark Palumbo; and Julianna, Anastasia and Angelina Galo.
She was the sister of the late Gloria Hinkle, the late Arlene Vangelis, the late Dorothy Rutshaw, the late Gregory Vangelis, the late Ann Marie Borowski and the late Nicholas Vangelis.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 10 at St. Mary Church in Riverside, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
