It took five games but the Riverside-Brookfield football team finally gave new head coach Brendan Curtin his first victory via a 34-28 decision over Ridgewood in both teams’ Metro Suburban Conference openers on Friday.

The host Bulldogs (1-4, 1-0) filled up the stats sheet as quarterback Jack VandeMerkt (23-for-30, 231 yards, 3 TDs), running back Adolfo Linares (30 carries, 125 yards, TD) and Joe Odeh (6 catches, 136 yards, TD) led RB offensively. Brad Bednar (11 tackles), Joe Urbanski (9 tackles) and Jordan Petronella (6 tackles) served as the Bulldogs’ primary ballhawks on defense.

RB visits Glenbard South on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
