In light of the unspeakable tragedy that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School this past Friday, only one thing is maddeningly clear: those children are not coming back.

This is the part of the events that cannot be changed.

The part, however, we can affect is what to do now. For that, we have a choice to make: do nothing, or speak out.

I plead with you to speak out.

Talk to your friends and neighbors. Contact your elected officials. Participate in blogs. Write to the newspaper.

It is time to immediately reinstate a national ban on assault weapons.

If we cannot agree on this type of common sense issue, what kind of society are we?
