Riverside, IL– The Riverside-Brookfield Football team demonstrated that leadership extends beyond the football season and into the giving season by participating in the “Stockings For Soldiers” initiative in partnership with Kuratko-Nosek Funeral Home of North Riverside. The Bulldog Football program donated over 50 holiday stockings filled with “everyday items of need” for service members such as personal care items, clothing, and books.
“One of our team values is giving back to the community and we thought this would be a fun team building activity while showing our gratitude for the sacrifices our soldiers make for our country,” said, senior to be, Adolfo Linares (running back & safety).
In 2012 the Kuratko-Nosek Funeral Home sent nearly 200 stockings to a platoon in the Middle East, with a goal of exceeding the donation in 2013.
“I’m really proud of the program and how they showcased the strength of pulling together for a common cause. These student-athletes have a tremendous work ethic and I look forward to what they will continue to accomplish as a program,” said RBHS head coach Brendan Curtin.
Kuratko-Nosek Funeral Home is covering the shipping cost of the football team’s donations with the intention of delivering the items in time for the holiday season.
