I am so happy reading the positive letter of Jim Zak (“North Riverside a great place to live,” Jan. 2). As someone who has the privilege of helping our residents, I feel also to invite everyone to help make our village what it should be.

How can a one resident do that? By taking the time to go to public meetings of the library board (second Monday of each month, 7:30 p.m.) and the village board (first and third Mondays at 7:30 p.m.) Bring a neighbor.

Learn what is going on, share your ideas, keep our town as good as it is and help make it even better.

Also you can volunteer for helping at the Friends of the Library, the Garden Club, the Community Theater and Neighborhood Services (look at the recent recreation book). A community is as good as the residents want it to be. After all, it is the people who make the town. It is our town, our community with the big heart.

Make this a New Year’s resolution: that you go to what you care about, attend the meetings and do not feel shy to come. Try to make time; it is so important.
