The National Weather Service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday issued a flood advisory for the Des Plaines River at Riverside.

With rainfall totals between 1 and 2 inches during the past 24-36 hours, the Des Plaines River at Riverside had risen to 5.33 feet as of 10 a.m. The National Weather Service has predicted that the river will crest at 6 feet, which is the “action” stage, by Thursday morning.

Flood stage for the Des Plaines River at Riverside is 7 feet. At that level, flooding typically occurs in park areas along the river and in Swan Pond Park. At 6 feet, the lowest areas near the river, typically forest preserves bordering the village, become inundated.
