On Jan. 14, the Brookfield village board approved an increase in the rate it will charge the owners of single-family homes and two-unit residences for waste hauling.

The village’s five-year contract with Groot Industries Inc., which was approved in 2009, allows for the waste hauler to increase rates annually between 3.6 and 4 percent. Groot proposed increasing its rates by 4 percent, effective Jan. 1, 2013.

The village board voted to pass that increase along to waste-hauler customers. Single-family customers are now paying $335.06 annually for waste hauling, which includes general refuse/recycling collection, yard waste collection and a disposal/administrative fee. In 2012, single-family customers paid $322.08.

Owners of two-unit dwellings are paying $604.73 annually in 2013 versus the $581.52 they paid in 2012.
