James M. Burns Sr., 84, a longtime resident of North Riverside, died Feb. 26, 2013 at Westchester Health and Rehabilitation.

Mr. Burns served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and later served as president of the Curtis Casket Company in Chicago. He was a member of the Mater Christi Holy Name Society, the Illinois Funeral Directors Association and the Casket Manufacturers Association.

He was the husband of Delphine Burns (nee Laskowski); the father of Kathleen M. Burns, James M. (Jane) Burns Jr., Stephen T. (Lori) Burns, Suzanne T. (Tom) Curtis, Nancy L. (Myles) Naughton and Patricia E. (Tony) Jones; the grandfather of McKenzie Burns, James D. Burns, Stephen D. Burns, Cara Burns, Clare Curtis, Bridget Curtis, Caroline Curtis, Nora Curtis, Kathleen “Katie” Naughton, Bridget Naughton, Margaret “Meg” Naughton, Mary Naughton, Collin Jones and Ronan Jones; the brother of Edward Burns and Betty (the late James) Quinn; and the uncle of several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was held March 1 at Mater Christi Church in North Riverside, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
