John R. Vondruska, 54, a lifelong resident of Brookfield, died March 29, 2013.
Mr. Vondruska, known on radio by the moniker Johnny Von, attended St. Barbara School and graduated from Lyons Township High School in 1977. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Columbia College in Chicago in the mid-1980s.
He worked in Chicago radio for many years as a show host on WLS and at WLUP-FM. Most recently he was sports director for WCKG-AM in Elmhurst. He was a member of the American federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA).
In addition, Mr. Vondruska was an avid Chicago White Sox fan, was a personal fitness devotee and enjoyed entertaining friends.
Mr. Vondruska is survived by his brothers, George (Susan), Edward (Mary), Thomas and Joseph (Kathy) Vondruska; his sister, Adele Vondruska; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Adeline Vondruska, and his sister, Barbara (the late James) Baloun.

A funeral service was held April 3 at Johnson Funeral Home in Brookfield, followed by interment at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Niles.
