During the past week, friends, family and acquaintances of Tony Garvey have been trying to process the information related to his suicide. What needs to be remembered is that no one may ever know, even those closest to him, why.
To attribute a single factor to such an action is as easy as it is wrong. People are complicated. Lives are complicated. What appears one way in public is often different in private. Speculation is just that, a guess.
Tony was a good man, a devoted father, a caring neighbor and friend to many people. Those attributes will never change. All anyone can do is to support his wife and children in their struggle to come to terms with this act. Families rally in times of crisis. So do communities.
His decision was tragic, but human. Let’s remember the man we knew. Thanks, Tony, for who you were.
