Helen A. Swapa (nee Szczesny), 84, of Poplar Grove and formerly of North Riverside, died June 14, 2013 at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.
Ms. Swapa was born in Chicago on June 18, 1928. She later married Chester G. Swapa, who preceded his wife in death. She worked as an accounts receivable clerk at Western Electric in Cicero prior to retirement.
She was the mother of Nancy (Mark) Petersen; the grandmother of Jennifer (David) Bruns and Shaun Petersen; the great-grandmother of Marie Bruns; the sister of Leona (late Everett) Cole, Stanley (Rose) Szczesny and the late Frank Szczesny; and the aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 20 from 3 to 8 p.m. and on Friday, June 21 from 9 a.m. until a 10 a.m. Catholic chapel service at Kuratko-Nosek Funeral Home, 2447 Desplaines Ave., North Riverside. Interment is at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice. A luncheon will follow the cemetery service at the Landmark Banquet Restaurant.
