Brookfield cruised past North Riverside 12-1 to win the Little League District 9 softball championship last week. The Dark Knights, comprised of players between ages 11 and 12, defeated LaGrange, Stickney and North Riverside (twice) en route to the district title. In the 12-1 rout of North Riverside, Teagan Bozzi allowed one run and struck over five over four innings to earn the victory, while Jacky Raygoza (2-for-2, four RBI), Bozzi (2-for-2, three RBI) and Destiny Carroll (2-for-2) led the offense. For the tournament, Bozzi allowed only two runs and struck out 29 in 16 innings of work.
Maddie Meehan, Grace Larson, Mckenzie Galbraith and Katelyn Malikowski also contributed in the Dark Knight’s convincing win against North Riverside.
In sectional play, Brookfield lost to Freeport 7-1 in LaSalle over the weekend. The Dark Knights rebounded with an 8-0 victory over Spring Valley as Raygoza and Bozzi combined to toss a one-hitter, while Meehan, Raygoza and Bridget Maher all went 2-for-3 at the plate.
