UPDATED 1:50 p.m.

Riverside police are now saying that Delaplaine Road between Longcommon and Nuttall will be closed to traffic between 9 and 11 a.m. on Saturday, and that Longcommon will be closed to traffic “intermittently” throughout the day. Detours will be posted. Police will be the scene to help direct traffic.

If you see a parade of semi-tractor trailers motoring and parking along Longcommon and North Delaplaine roads near Big Ball Park on Saturday, it’s not because they got lost trying to avoid the Harlem Avenue train crossing.

Actually, the trailers and the crowd of strangers milling around the neighborhood will be there to film portions of a television dramatic series slated to debut in late September on ABC-TV.

Residents of the area were notified of the impending film invasion yesterday, and Riversiders are being asked to avoid parking in the area between 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 3 and 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 4.

Crews will be there to shoot interior and exterior shots for a series called Betrayal, which is scheduled to premiere on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 9 p.m. The series reportedly is based on the Dutch show Overspel, and, in the grand tradition of contemporary Hollywood, it stars actors from overseas in the lead roles — English actress Hannah Ware and Irish actor Stuart Townsend. The series also stars Henry Thomas, who most remember as Elliot in Steven Spielberg’s film E.T., the Extra-Terrestrial.

Most of the daytime activity will be centered around the area just north of Big Ball Park on Longcommon Road, according to Cathy Haley, the assistant to Riverside’s village manager. Crews will be shooting a scene outside of the Village Center building on East Burlington Street sometime prior to midnight, however. Streets are expected to remain open to traffic on Saturday.

Film crews will return to the village on Aug. 9 or 10 for another round of filming, including a scene with a little pizzazz — they’ll be blowing up a car, according to Haley.
