Dr. David A. Mrazek, 65, of Rochester, Minn., and formerly of Riverside, died May 6, 2013.

Dr. Mrazek grew up in Riverside and graduated from Riverside-Brookfield High School in 1965. He was the chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology at the Mayo Clinic and a professor of psychiatry at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.

He was also chairman of the board of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Mrazek received several awards, including the Agnes Purcell McGavin Award for Distinguished Career Achievement in Child Psychiatry from the American Psychiatric Association and the award for Creativity in Psychiatric Education from the American College of Psychiatry.

Dr. Mrazek wrote several books including Psychiatric Pharmacogenomics and the A-Z Guide to Your child’s Behavior: A Parent’s Easy and Authoritative Reference to Hundreds of Everyday Problems.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Drs. Rudolph and Hazel Mrazek. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his daughters, Nicola and Alissa; his sons, Matthew and Michael (Kaita); his sisters, Susan and Nancy (Robert) Drain; his uncle, Milton (Sharon) Schayes; two nieces; one nephew; and many cousins.

A memorial service will be held in Minnesota in September.
