The Board of Trustees of the Village of Riverside, at its Regular Meeting on Thursday, September 5, 2013, approved a settlement of a lawsuit filed by the Village’s former Fire Chief, Kevin Mulligan. The lawsuit is pending in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and was filed on November 16, 2011 following the termination of Mr. Mulligan’s employment with the Village. The agreement provides for no admission of liability on the part of the Village and releases the Village from all claims associated with Mr. Mulligan’s employment with the Village. The agreement further provides that the parties agreed to a settlement to “avoid further controversy, litigation, costs, legal fees and inconvenience” associated with continued litigation.

“It is frustrating to see our residents’ tax dollars spent in such a manner,” said Village President Benjamin Sells. “Still, the Village Board has acted in the best interests of the Village by taking this step to move forward and put this case behind us.”
