Although it’s still relatively early in the season, the Bulldogs have already proven they certainly know how to string together some impressive victories. After a 1-2 start this fall, RBHS (6-2, 1-1 Metro Suburban Conference) reeled off five straight match wins en route to taking the six-team, round-robin Leyden Invite title over the weekend.

In the Bulldogs’ tournament opener, Monica Kasper had 11 kills and seven digs to power RBHS past Willowbrook 25-21, 26-24. Paola Lehman (11 digs, three kills), Olivia Gyssler (12 assists) and Amy Frey (13 assists, four kills) along with solid play from middle hitters Nicole LaBelle and Amanda Lelivelt (five kills each) all played key roles in the Bulldogs’ hard-fought win.

In second round action, RBHS squeaked out another close match, 26-24, 27-25 over Niles North. Kapser continued her stellar work around the net with 11 kills and 10 digs. Frey dished out 13 assists and Natalia Gheewala tallied eight digs and two aces. Natalie Wanner added five kills for the victors.

Next, RBHS took down Addison Trail 25-18, 25-19. Lelivelt (seven kills, four blocks, two aces) and Lehman (six kills, nine digs) led the Bulldogs past the Blazers.

After RBHS defeated the tournament host Eagles 25-18, 25-17 as Lelivelt and Kasper recorded seven kills and six kills, respectively, the Bulldogs wrapped up their perfect weekend with a 25-19, 25-18 victory against Westmont. The high-flying Kasper again paced the Bulldogs’ offensive attack with 12 kills. Lelivelt and Kayla Noffsinger chipped in five kills each against the Sentinels. Frey had 12 assists and nine digs, while Gheewala added eight digs for the victors.

The Bulldogs look to extend their five-match winning streak with a couple of Metro Suburban Conference matches this week followed by a tournament during the weekend.

RBHS travels to Elmhurst to take on Timothy Christian tonight at 5:30 (Sept. 17) before returning home for Thursday’s (Sept. 19) 5:30 p.m. clash against Glenbard South. Both are conference matches.

The Bulldogs close out their busy week by participating at the Demon Invite this weekend (Sept. 19 & 20). Friday’s matches begin at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday’s matches start at 9 a.m.
