The Village has been advised by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District that the strong odor emanating from the TARP (deep tunnel) vent shafts today and last Thursday is the result of maintenance work to the Deep Tunnel which requires the diversion of the main interceptor sewer. This is causing sewer gas to vent through the drop shafts. This odor can be very strong and unpleasant at times. Maintenance work is scheduled to conclude in approximately 48 hours.
