The village of Brookfield’s water tower, repainted late this summer, won’t be Miss January after all.
Tnemec Inc., the industrial coatings company whose products are used to paint water towers across the nation, announced on Nov. 1 in a YouTube video that Mount Vernon, Ill., — not Brookfield — was their choice for Water Tank of the Year for 2013.
As a result, Mount Vernon’s water tower with its fanciful splashes of color and its motto “Creativity Redefined” will adorn the January page of Tnemec’s 2014 water tank calendar. Brookfield will take its place alongside 10 other water tanks populating the calendar pages of other months.
In October, Tnemec asked the general public to cast votes online to determine the nation’s top 12 water tanks. After balloting ended, Tnemec’s staff chose the winner.
Nonetheless, Brookfield — and its many friends — were extraordinarily enthusiastic in showing support for the village dolphin-bedecked water tower. Brookfield ended the public voting in first place with 2,091 votes out of the 10,621 cast in the contest.
