At a meeting of the Lyons Village Board on Wednesday night, trustees approved a budget that would cut the police department budget by $1 million, a move that would result in the loss of seven police officers and the department’s entire emergency dispatch crew.

Coincidentally, the village is negotiating a new contract with its police union. The new budget looks like it could be a tool for management to try and pry financial concessions from the union.
