LA GRANGE PARK, IL – The communities of LaGrange, LaGrange Park and Brookfield banned together last week to support the tornado victims in Washington, Illinois. Kelly Zawisza, Principal at St. Louise de Marillac School, organized the food drive and will be driving one of the trucks down to Washington on Monday afternoon.
“I’m overwhelmed by the generosity of our community,” said Zawisza. “What started out as a small idea of local families giving what they could to help the families in Washington, turned into two box trucks of donations that will make a significant impact on the lives of those families.”
Zawisza reached out to families at St. Louise de Marillac Parish and School, Tischler’s Finer Foods (Brookfield), Greater LaGrange YMCA and Nazareth Academy to be drop sites for the food drive. Volunteers from the organizations and schools helped to transfer donations to St. Louise School for sorting and boxing. St. Louise Student Council, 8th grade students and parents helped load the donations onto box trucks for their trip to Washington.
“None of this would have been possible without the support of our volunteers. I’m so proud to be part of this community!” said Zawisza.
