At a time when it is tough being an independent grocer, it’s good to see Tischler’s Finer Foods, a Brookfield mainstay, innovating — and getting the support of village government to back that innovation.
The village board is expected to vote next week to grant Tischler’s a license to sell beer and wine. Dennis Tischler, the store’s owner, sees this addition as just another way to serve customers looking for the convenience of one-stop shopping. And the department will fit well into the other improvements the store undertook last summer. At that time the produce, deli and bakery sections were expanded and new produce cases and freezers were installed.
These are the sorts of investments we love to see small businesses make. Now it is up to local shoppers to prove their support for a family-owned business such as Tischler’s.
