It’s always nice to have a real rooting interest when it comes to the Winter Olympics — sure, we wish the U.S. curling team and those scrappy biathletes well and all but, come on.

Luckily in 2014, we’ll be keeping close track of high school senior Emery Lehman, whose dad hails from Brookfield and whose grandfather, Don, still lives in the village.

Emery will be competing in the speedskating event next month in Sochi, Russia, having secured his spot in U.S. trials last month. Making it to the Olympics at all is an honor worth celebrating and we congratulate Emery.

Hard work and perseverance often pay off in the long run. With support from his family, Emery has been reaching for his goals since a young age.

We’ll be rooting during his Olympic run.
