John Peter “Pete” Duve, 80, formerly of Brookfield, died Jan. 19, 2014 surrounded by members of his family at his home in Sheridan.

Mr. Duve was born July 13, 1933 in Staten Island, N.Y., to Gustaf and Elly (nee Luders) Duve. He married Suzanne Schmitt of Brookfield, and the couple settled there and raised their family.

While a resident of Brookfield, Mr. Duve was active with the Boy Scouts and the Hollywood Community House. He also served on the school board at Riverside-Brookfield High School.

He worked for the Eaton Corporation in Carol Stream, retiring in 1996. He also enjoyed woodworking and gardening at the house he built in Sheridan. He enjoyed traveling the world, model trains and spending time with his family.

Mr. Duve was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne, in 1990. He later married Nancy Wilkin (nee Cesak) in 1996 in Burbank.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Wilkin-Duve of Sheridan; his children, Gerald (Mary Anne) Duve of Amboy, Ronald (Boby Jo) Duve of Brookfield, Russell Duve of Albuquerque, N.M. and Eric (Christina) Duve of Riverside; his stepchildren, Natalie (David) Wilkins of Olive Branch, Miss., John (Michelle) Wilkin of Plainfield and Christine (Raymond) Pfaff of Sheridan; his grandchildren, Joshua, Greta, Carrie, Teagan, Stephanie, Elena and Max; his step-grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Raymond, Kelly, Jacob, Melissa, Johnathon, Heather, Zachary and Ethan; and his great grandchildren, Danika and Jensen.

Also surviving are his brothers, Wolfgang Duve of Maine, Roger Duve of Pennsylvania and George Duve of New Jersey, and his sister, Helga Monaka Dalezios of Greece. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Steven.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Feb. 1 at Lawn Funeral Home, 7909 State Road, Burbank, from 1 to 5 p.m., with a memorial service following the visitation.
