With the onset of warner temperatures and a soaking rain on Thursday, the level of the Des Plaines River in Riverside is rising faster than the National Weather Service predicted earlier in the day.

At 4:45 p.m., the Des Plaines had risen to a height of 5.7 feet, which is still well below the 7-foot flood stage. However, the National Weather Service had predicted that the river wouldn’t reach 5.7 feet level until sometime Friday afternoon.

A second round of rain is supposed to hit the area this evening along with high winds which are predicted to gust to 60 mph.
