Robert J. Burke, 82, a resident of Riverside for 48 years, died March 3, 2014.
Mr. Burke served in the U.S Army during the Korean War. He was an active member of St. Mary Parish in Riverside and was one of the founders of the St. Mary’s Booster Club in 1968. He was also a member of the parish’s Holy Name Society.
A lifelong sports fan, Mr. Burke enjoyed following the teams at St. Mary, Fenwick High School, Riverside-Brookfield High School and St. Charles East High School.
He was the husband of Mary Kathryn Burke (nee Lamb); the father of Kathleen (John) Clarke, Susan (William) Sherman, Mary Jo (Thomas) McCloskey and Margaret Burke; the grandfather of Katy Clarke, John (Anna) Clarke, Robert Clarke, Joseph Clarke, Timothy Clarke, Ryan (Tia) Sherman, Kevin (Carlyn) Sherman, Kelly Sherman, Dan McCloskey, Maggie McCloskey and Molly McCloskey; the great-grandfather of Bryce, Tessa, Tori and Jake; and the brother of the late Joseph Burke and Patricia Laing.
A funeral Mass was celebrated March 8 at St. Mary Church in Riverside. Interment was private.
