Anyone driving through Brookfield, North Riverside and Riverside during the month of May should be forewarned: all three police departments will be stepping up enforcement of Illinois seatbelt laws in the run up to Memorial Day.

From May 9 to May 26, police will be participating in the Illinois Department of Transportation’s grant-funded Click It or Ticket program, which means there will be special enforcement details on the streets during that period, looking specifically for seatbelt and other traffic violations.

Wearing seatbelts is required for anyone in a vehicle — no matter the age or seating position. Children under the age of 8 are required by law to be in a car seat or booster seat.
