The RBHS Day of Service was once again a resounding success! On April 26, in conjunction with other local community Arbor Day and Earth Day celebrations, the high school community dispersed throughout our feeder communities to clean up, enhance, and celebrate the arrival of spring after a long, hard winter.

Two hundred and fifty-five students along with more than 50 parent and staff volunteers engaged in 24 projects in Brookfield, Broadview, North Riverside and Riverside.

Efforts were coordinated through a joint committee spearheaded by the RBHS PTO and the Day of Service Student Committee. Together, they contacted local municipalities and civic organizations including the Brookfield Beautification Commission, the Salt Creek Watershed Network, the Cook County Forest Preserve, and the Frederick Law Olmsted Society of Riverside to execute clean up, restoration and plantings in community parks and public areas.

The administration and staff played a huge role in orchestrating the work of many to bring this day together interacting closely with student volunteers. Major financial contributions to the Day of Service were made by the RBHS PTO, the Frederick Law Olmsted Society of Riverside and the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce. The after-party celebration was supplied entirely by refreshment and monetary donations from 26 community businesses, including Al’s Pizzeria, Aunt Diana’s, Bills Place, Burger King, Chef Shangri-La, Costco North Riverside, CVS Brookfield, DiNico’s Pizza, Dominos Lyons, Dunkin Donuts, Edward Don Company, Grand Tavern, Jewel LaGrange Park, Minuteman, Newlywed Foods, Paisan’s Pizzeria, Phil’s Sports Bar & Grill, Pure’s Cookie Outlet, Quest Food Management, Riverside Foods, Tischler’s, Tony’s Finer Foods, Trader Joe’s LaGrange, Vesuvio Bakery, Village of North Riverside and Zoo City Treats

The RBHS PTO Day of Service Committee wishes to thank all involved in making the Day of Service a great success for our community.
