With less than one year left on her term, Patricia Martinson has resigned her position on the Komarek School District 94 Board of Education. Martinson was first appointed to the Komarek school board in 2010 and was elected to a full year four year term in 2011.

Martinson, resident of North Riverside, said she resigned because of personal family considerations.

“I have an elderly mother,” Martinson said. “Family needs have come first. I have to put my family first.”

Martinson said she has enjoyed her time on the school board.

“It’s an eye opening experience as far as how the schools are run,” she said. “And I’ve enjoyed all the people I’ve met along the way.”

Martinson will be missed on the board, said school board President Christopher Waas.

“She’s been a very thoughtful person, taking in all sides of the equation when making a judgment,” Waas said. “It’s been a pleasure serving with her.”

The board will appoint someone next month to serve out the remainder of Martinson’s term, which expires in the spring of 2015.

School board members during the upcoming 2014-14 school will choose a successor to Superintendent Neil Pellicci, who will retire June 30, 2105.

Applications to fill the school board vacancy should be sent to Komarek School District 94, 8940 24th St., North Riverside, Illinois, 60546.
